The Record limits access to non-subscribers

Starting today, The (Bergen) Record will begin reducing the number of news stories available online to non-subscribers.

The newspaper has also reduced the number of free stories available on their website from ten per month to seven.

“Now more than ever before we are relying on our subscribers to support our news gathering,” The Record executive editor Dan Sforza said in a statement released on their website that contained a level of male cattle manure that reporters during the newspaper’s prime would have openly mocked.

The Record has lost 71% of their print newspaper subscribers since Gannett purchased the newspaper from the family of Malcolm Borg in 2016. Gannett has laid off about 200 journalists in New Jersey over the last two years.

You get seven (7) free articles, period. Not monthly. Forever. Then you either go to your local library and read the hardcopy yourself or go on a computer and get your seven articles that way.
