Robert Menendez elementary in West New York plans to revert to its previous name
Public School No 3 before the start of the upcoming academic year, the New Jersey Globe recently reported, attributing the information to the citys mayor, Albio Sires.
Sires, who also had a West New York school named after him, succeeded Menendez in the US House after Menendez in 2006 was appointed to an open Senate seat that he then won three full terms to serve in.
Officials gave Public School No 3 its Menendez moniker in 2013, which was its second year of existence. The name represented a proverbial olive branch from the West New York mayor at the time, Felix Roque, to Menendez after Roque had endorsed a Republican challenger running against Menendez in the latters 2012 Senate re-election race.
But now the school is about to provide only the latest example of a disgraced public officials name being stripped off a New Jersey public building or academic institute, as National Public Radio reported Sunday.
