Stuff that was rejected by the machine, included a battery, a couple of foreign coins and two Garden State Parkway tokens.

--- the coins were my Mom's and 'nuff said.

The kid at the bank. "What are those for/ The subway?"

I then had a conversation with two older women behind their desks about Parkway tokens. Long lines on weekends to get to the toll booth to drop tokens in. Fishing for change to pay for the toll before the tokens came into use.

The kid was probably not even born when they were discontinued. 2002.

the other day and it turned up a thread on Reddit. I think it was some kid who found them and genuinely didn't know what they were!

Not too sure on this as I only scanned the thread for a second or two.

comes from a machine that hasn't been used for generations. I would imagine that most people have never seen an actual cash register that makes that sound. Yet they all know it means $$$$.
