Vote by mail update: More than 385k New Jerseyans have voted

More than 385,000 people have voted in the Garden State, according to an analysis by Associated Press researcher Ryan Dubicki.

About 63.4% of returned absentee ballots, or 243,000, belong to registered Democrats. About 20.5% of returned absentee ballots belong to Republicans, and another 15.8% belong to unaffiliated voters.

About 1.033 million registered voters have requested ballots throughout the state.

Early ballots from Democrats, who are more likely to vote early and have more registered voters in the state, generally outnumber Republican mail-in votes.

In the competitive 7th congressional district, Democrats have returned 41.5% of their requested ballots, still slightly more than the GOP’s 39.5% return rate. Democratic returns are beating Republicans in the district 22,141 to 10,109.
