Historic Mahwah Mansion, Seized From Fraudster, Listed For $33M

MAHWAH, NJ — A historic Mahwah estate is selling for $33 million after the federal government seized it last year from a Chinese businessman.

Back in March of 2023, Ho Wan Kwok, aka "Miles Guo," was arrested on 12 charges related to an online scheme to defraud his followers of more than $1 billion over five years, the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York said.

He was arrested at his 15-room Central Park penthouse on March 15 of that year. ... But he also owned the historic Crocker Mansion, a 21-bedroom Mahwah home built in 1907 for Southern Pacific Railroad Vice President George Crocker. ... The mansion's 12 acres overlook the Ramapo Mountains and include a massage room, movie theater, and more.

Compass Real Estate was chosen as the listing agent as part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, according to Law 360.

An online description says, "Originally constructed in 1907, this estate has been meticulously restored, offering approximately 50,000 square feet of spectacular living space and more than 12 acres of marvelous grounds framed by the Ramapo Mountains."
