Police respond incident at LaPlaca home, charge husband with strangulation

An alleged disturbance at the home of Lumberton Township Committeewoman Gina LaPlaca early this morning led to criminal charges against her controversial husband, Jason Carty, a member of the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Board of Education and a veteran Democratic operative.

The incident comes five days before a fierce Democratic primary in which LaPlaca is on the ballot for re-election, and three months after she pleaded guilty to child endangerment stemming from a 2025 drunk-driving incident with her young child in the car.

Carty was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation, an indictable offense, and harassment with the intent to cause alarm, a petty disorderly persons offense.

A local law enforcement official, who is familiar with the matter and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Lumberton police responded to a call around 6:45 AM and asked Carty to leave the home. Carty was not taken into custody, and charges were filed later.

That seldom goes well.

I feel terrible for LaPlaca as a woman. With a husband like that, her 2025 drunk driving and child endangerment arrest seems almost excusable, At least it's a good excuse for drinking.

It's probably not a good enough excuse for re-electing her right now.
