Last night in the NJ-7th I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Jacob.
He's running in the NJ 7th - a gerrymandered district. His opponent Leonard Lance declined to visit with us in a Town Hall setting. As a matter of fact, due to the venue being a non profit facility the County GOP tried to prevent the meeting from happening with only one candidate.
He's 31 - and was inspired to run by BOTH President Obama and Senator Sanders. His parents came here in 1986 from India with $20 and him. Their entire fortune. He has a Masters Degree in Social Work and has worked amongst the poorest people in our state. He related how as a Social Worker he sat with a prior classmate who could not afford the entire 4 years of college to assist them with finding affordable Housing.
Legalization of Marijuana - Yes
Stop and Frisk - No
Education: Pro Affordable college, Understands completely the need to overhaul K-12, FOR Trades education.
Extremely concerned about hidden big money in politics.
Against ever implementing a draft.
Against Iraq/Afghanistan Wars.
Does believe ISIS/ISIL is a threat.
Very responsive to issues impacting the African American community.
Focused on the issues of Veterans with an emphasis on their mental health.
What he's up against? A Man who has a war chest of Koch Money who believes in Stop and Frisk, was hemming and hawing on shutting down the government a few years ago and who has not been able to sponsor and get passed a single Bill in Congress. And that's as a Republican in a Republican House with a Republican Senate. *smdh*
I walked out and donated to him.
His campaign manager was clear that the local media has made VERY CLEAR that they are not the least bit interested in covering Congressional races.
I'm not asking anyone to give to the party. I'm asking to give to him directly so that we can make a run at this.
He's young, progressive, liberal and *gets* how hard things have been for people since the Great Recession. He sees the people who have been left behind. He's helped them.
We haven't had a lot of Masters in Social Work in DC - but maybe if we had just one . . .we could have a voice for the people who fall through the cracks. This man will be representing some of the poorest people in America (the Eastern part of the district) and a county that is one of the wealthiest and reddest in America in the West. That's one of the BIGLY
challenges in this district.
We need to move the Hope forward and give a man inspired by Sanders to run a chance. If you can - could you please donate? If you can't - could you share his campaign on Social Media. He was endorsed by Sanders.
I'm going to see if I can get some any of my connects in State to help him on the ground - but he still has a hole in financing.
We can't compete financially against the Kochs.
