Hoboken train terminal set to resume full service

The Hoboken commuter train terminal, which was closed when a NJ Transit train crashed into the end of the platform in a high-speed approach Sept. 29, was set to resume full service in time for this morning’s rush hour, officials said.

One person was killed and more than 100 were injured in the crash, which occurred when a train traveling at more than twice the 10 mph speed limit slammed into the platform at the railhead.

Initially, all 17 tracks entering the terminal were closed, giving engineers time to evaluate the damage to the platform and terminal canopy, allowing investigators to begin their inquiry into the cause and permitting workers to remove the wrecked train and shore up the structure.

Partial service was resumed on Oct. 10, when trains were permitted to use Tracks 10 through 17. Track 9 was put back into service on Oct. 11.
