Dems stick with Menendez despite charges, but 2018 looms

He’s battling federal corruption charges that include bribery, but Sen. Bob Menendez does not have to fight for the support of New Jersey Democratic leaders.

They stood by him after he was first charged in April 2015 and, for now, with the 2016 election in the rear-view mirror and his seat up in 2018, they are still there.

“I don’t see any slippage at all,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-Paterson.

Strong support from Democrats at home may be vital to Menendez, because he’s not likely to get much help from the national party in the coming election cycle.

He'd be the one who'd appoint Menendez's replacement.
