You have to love it! New Mexico State University art students unveil 'Dump' sculpture
LAS CRUCES - They were instructed to use clay in a nontraditional way. So, five students in an undergraduate ceramics class at New Mexico State University spent about four weeks transforming heaps of clay into a head-turning political statement.
Their work, titled “Dump,” was unveiled on Presidents Day in D.W. Williams Hall, which houses NMSU’s Art Department.
At the center of the piece is a larger-than-life sculpture of President Donald Trump, cast out of clay and reinforced with other materials. But the president’s head and signature hairstyle have been omitted in favor of something far less flattering: a gold-highlighted excrement, or “dump,” also made of clay.
The sculpture, positioned behind a lectern as if in the midst of a speech, is surrounded by various protest signs and a brick wall, a symbol of Trump’s proposed border wall. The sculpture also features tiny hands and trash spilling out from behind. Red tomatoes and dolls are strewn throughout the art piece.

When asked if the sculpture could be perceived as disrespectful, Guerra said, “He doesn’t care if he’s being disrespectful to anyone else, so why should we care if we’re being disrespectful toward him?”
