Albany police officer arrested for allegedly slamming teen girl to ground

An Albany police officer has been arrested after allegedly slamming a teenage girl onto the floor and using unnecessary force at a group home last month.

Officer Ervis Miftari was suspended without pay earlier this month pending the outcome of an internal investigation. On Wednesday, Miftari was arrested and charged with child harassment, a violation, and misdemeanor child endangerment, the Albany Times Union reported.

The incident at St. Anne Institute — an Albany group home for troubled teenagers — occurred on July 26. Police were called by staff members who were having difficulty controlling two teenage girls.

Miftari and another officer, John Schueler, helped staff members move one of the girls into a "time-out room" that had a surveillance camera. Images from the camera showed Miftari entering the room, grabbing the 15-year-old girl and slamming her to the ground.
