Red spray-painted swastikas in Long Island being investigated as hate crimes

Police are investigating multiple red spray-painted swastikas on Long Island as hate crimes after residents reported seeing the offensive messages throughout their neighborhoods.

The slew of reported racist graffiti was found between Nov. 30 and Dec.16 in several Long Island towns that include Mineola and Merrick, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

A sidewalk in front of a Washington Ave. home was vandalized with multiple red swastikas and “Make America White Again” written in black on Nov.30 at 6:30 a.m. The incident could have happened the night before, police said.

A Nassau County police spokesman told the Daily News that other “bias incidents” occurred on Dec. 16 at Nassau Community College, where police found more swastikas drawn in bathrooms.
