'A silly fight over vital infrastructure has gone off the rails. Lets make a deal.
Last year when President Trump visited Mount Vernon, the plantation home of the countrys first president, he remarked that the founding father had missed a golden opportunity.
If he was smart, he wouldve put his name on it, Mr. Trump said, according to news reports. Youve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you.
If the president wants to be remembered for something that would help make the country great again, how about the proposed rail tunnel under the Hudson River, one of the most important and urgently needed transportation infrastructure projects in the country?
The project includes numerous regional rail upgrades, including the construction of a new tunnel and the refurbishment of the existing tunnel. That tunnel, opened in 1910, carries more than 800,000 passenger trips per day between New Jersey and New York.'>>>

I'm sure there is a garbage dump somewhere that could be named after this category 5 shithole. It would have to be a really filthy and toxic one though. Trump rhymes with dump, and over 80% of the people in the u.s. want to dump Trump, so how appropriate.

(9,572 posts)Even if he was only a Republican President and not Donald Trump, he would neither fund nor build such a project. Projects that benefit the public good but doesnt benefit the fossil fuel industry goes against the political dogma that has driven the Republican Party for the last twenty years.
The day when Republicans would build something that would benefit Americas citizenry is as over and gone as Dwight Eisenhower and Nelson Rockefeller.

(17,148 posts)The project was well underway when Chris Christie backed out and sent all the money to casinos in Atlantic City. We'd already moved a potter's field in Secaucus, NJ of over 4,000 souls for the train station that was to be built on the NJ side. I'm sure it will all be much cheaper nearly 20 years later.

Lousy Republicans. NYC needs this tunnel.
