SYRACUSE Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said there would be no New York State Fair this year marking the first time the event has been canceled since World War II.
This is a really tough one, Cuomo said during a COVID-19 update in New York City.
Cuomo, who has been a major booster of the event during his decade in office, noted that fairs all across the nation have been shut down by the coronavirus pandemic. "We have a fantastic State Fair in Syracuse. ... We've had record attendance 1.3 million people last year. ... We invested money, we redid the whole State Fair. We built a new expo center, 110,000 square feet it's really amazing."
"This year we're going to have to cancel it and that makes me personally very unhappy, but that is where we are, he said.
