De Blasio concerned that potential stimulus money earmarked for NYC will first go through Albany
As election results continued to come in Wednesday, Mayor de Blasio once again pinned his hopes for economic recovery on a new federal stimulus package, but voiced concerns it might not come directly to the city and could instead pass through the state government first.
You betcha theres concern, de Blasio said at his Wednesday press briefing. We need resources to go directly to localities.
If federal money were to pass through the state before reaching the city, that would give Gov. Cuomo, a longtime rival of de Blasios, discretion over how to distribute the much-needed relief funding.
De Blasio has been calling for the Trump administration and GOP-controlled Senate to approve more federal funding for months now as New York City continues to grapple with the fiscal effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
