Over 15 million people are under a heat advisory across portions of New York and New Jersey on Thursday and Friday, when temperatures are expected reach several degrees above normal.
"Heat index values up to 99 today and heat index values up to 103 expected Friday," the National Weather Service Office in New York said.
The heat advisories begin at 11 a.m. Thursday and continue through Friday until 8 p.m. This will be a two-day event, where conditions will be very hot during the day and not cool off very much at night.
The weather service in New York also said Friday will be the hotter of the two days.

(227,438 posts)As well as thunderstorm warnings, on Wednesday they were coming every hour. So much for the tourists who came here to camp. And there sure are a lot of them like any "normal" tourist season, packing the streets of Lake George Village - without a mask in sight.

(2,000 posts)I hope all folks there will be safe, and the power grid will hold. I recall several blackouts during heatwaves, and the higher the temps the greater the demand. I have loved ones in NY and NJ.
I've been living in the mountains of NC for many years, a place people come to escape the heat.
We have forests and streams. But I remember the summer heat of the city very well. These high temps will be brutal.
There's no escaping global warming, and shifting weather patterns.
