Report: City could save millions by shifting local elections to even-numbered years

A new report finds that shifting local elections here in the city to even-numbered years could save tens of millions of dollars.

The study by the city’s Independent Budget Office says if local elections were held at the same time as state and federal elections, the city could save on average $42 million every other year.

But the change would require state approval.

Cassandra Stuart, the author of the report, joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss more.

If these were rolled in with the other elections, it would save a ton of $$

According to our elections office, the reason we do it this way has to do with who is funding the election:
City local options are partially funded by the the city
other elections are funded by the state

In fact, election workers are not paid the same amount in every election. We have a variety of oddball elections which do not have much in the way of turn out
