Expect voting lines to be shorter with New York court's mail-in ballot decision
SYRACUSE, N.Y. One week ago, New York State's highest court upheld the decision to allow all voters to vote by mail in the 2024 election.
The Onondaga County Board of Elections says nearly a quarter of voters in the county used the option in 2020. The courts recent decision to allow mail-in voting to continue will most likely lead even more voters to use the option.
This is changing the way people vote, said Onondaga County Board of Elections commissioner Dustin Czarny. They used to be able to send in an absentee ballot-- and go to the polls and have that ballot wipe out the absentee one-- however now if an absentee ballot is requested, that's the live ballot.
Czarny also said he believes this move will decrease wait times at polling sites on election day and streamline the process of counting votes in the state.
