ASHEBORO, N.C. (WNCN) Two men were placed into handcuffs in what police say was an apparent road rage incident hours after Donald Trump and JD Vance left the stage of a rally in Asheboro Wednesday afternoon.
The heavy police presence and activity took place around 4:30 p.m. as hundreds of rallygoers continued to pour out of the area in their cars. According to the Asheboro Police Department, a weapon was displayed from within a vehicle during the reported altercation between rallygoers, but it was not pointed at anyone. ... Further, the suspect made no threats to assault anyone, Asheboro police said.
Police said 79-year-old Robert Richard Castona Jr. of Hillsborough was cited for violating N.C. General Statute 14-277.2, which prohibits weapons at parades and other similar events. He was released and given a September 16 court date in Randolph County District Court, according to police. ... CBS 17s Russ Bowen was a few yards away when the men were put into handcuffs.
During the incident, officers spoke at length to both men and several weapons were pulled out and placed on top of a silver-colored sedan. ... Wednesdays event marked the first time Trump has spoken at an outdoor rally since the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13.
