Tea Party moves to remove homeless from Buncombe voter roll

Voters removed from the Buncombe voter roll

ASHEVILLE – The registrations of 90-some inactive voters will be removed from the voter roll after the individuals failed to show up or send representation to a hearing Thursday challenging their registration in Buncombe County.

There is a 10-day window to appeal Thursday’s proceedings through Buncombe County Superior Court. The Board of Elections will also allow an additional five days for processing, Chairman John Watson said.

The Asheville Tea Party and the Raleigh-based Voter Integrity Project brought the challenges, which were initially among 182 filed last month; the elections board dismissed the others. The groups fear the registrations could be used for voter fraud.

Sarah Zambon, of the Asheville-Buncombe League of Women Voters, issued a written statement prior to the hearing. She said 82 of the challenged voters were registered at one of Asheville’s homeless shelters.

“Allegations that these challenges address any of potential voter fraud are entirely fallacious and misleading,” she said.
“Many of these voters have been registered since 2008 and there is no record of any votes being cast in their names, clearly demonstrating the lack of voter fraud in Buncombe County.”

sub-group they are manning battle stations to surpress voters who probably will vote Democratic. Expect to hear more, not less of these individual battles as midterm elections near.
