Gov. Pat McCrory said Wednesday he wants the state to borrow more than $1 billion to kick-start a raft of mostly rural transportation projects.
Our small towns are still struggling, McCrory told an audience in Greenville. And our major emphasis in economic development is going to be put toward our towns, you know, from 10 to 50 thousand people.

(11,441 posts)Maybe finish freakin' 540?! Urban areas are keeping this state afloat and we're being hosed by rural politicians. UFB. I'm trying not to perpetuate the rural v. urban divide, but it is what it is.
Elizabeth City to Norfolk is 47 miles along Route 17. How many miles will a new super-duper highway shave off? And God forbid convincing businesses to move to NE NC. Wait! I thought the Republicans' corporate tax cuts were to do just that!
