Related: About this forumthere's always a lot of bitching about how democrats don't get the message out.
well, thousands marched in Raleigh this weekend. can you find it on the news?
i am so pissed. i am watching the local news while getting ready for work. someone got shot and killed due to road rage. no word on her religion. a storm is coming. dah de dah de dah
maybe democrats can stop blaming themselves and take the protests to the news stations. media is a HUGE part of the problem in this country and i for one am ready to stop whipping myself because of it.

(29,726 posts)instead of pointing the finger at ourselves for "bad messaging" maybe we can just keep a spotlight on what media does and does not do. oh it's so bad i cannot listen to NPR's political coverage let alone so-called "mainstream" crap. rachel and melissa i can usually bear, but why do they bring on asshole republicans and then act as if they're doing something good by that? unless they shine a light on what's wrong....
aargh. gotta go to work. i'm just turning bitter which pisses me off even more!

(53,475 posts)... net neutrality is so important and why it's CRITICAL that the government does NOT create a definition for "journalists" who would receive freedom of the press priviledges.

(3,795 posts)They DO have the spotlight or can have the spotlight in the media if they so choose.
They can get their message out as an organized Party with an organized agenda through their communications with voters, media appearances, while they represent "us" in Congress (a few actually do, thank you Elizabeth and Bernie), etc.
Of course, the media is not going to help us, but the elected politicians definitely share a huge part of the blame. They don't fight for our values, and they don't expose what the Republicans' agenda has brought to the American people in an effective way that resonates (and that should be easy).

(5,402 posts)It looks like it's more state news than national, but I found this.

The clip isn't much, and with everyone gone for the long weekend, it may have been a matter of using canned stories and allocating limited resources for current news coverage.
Still sad to see such meager coverage of a great state news story.

This country is very strange. I hardly recognize it any more.

(22,666 posts)...not my fellow Democratic voters themselves. We're voiceless because they cower and hide in corners. Our reps should be out in public and on airwaves raising hell. But they're inexplicably not. I always question why Sanders and Warren can get TV time but no other Dems can (though Sanders isn't a Dem)

(262 posts)I have an answer for you. Robert Reich and Moveon have a program that bypasses the MSM and gets the REAL message out. So go to Moveon.org and sign up and help this effort.

Because the vast majority of people in this country are suckers for the hyped-up distorted garbage they dish out. Hooked on it. And will never get the real message...

(6,944 posts)Prior to our gubernatorial election, we organized a "Vote Quinn" march in the county seat, and had almost 600 registered Democrats join in. Not even the local newspaper (owned by Gatehouse media) covered the march.

They have polarized this country for their own ends.

(6,335 posts)Moral Mondays are organized by a coalition of activists, not the Democratic Party.
How many Party leaders have participated? Here in NY we held some Moral Mondays at the Capital and around the state - I don't recall Senator Schumer joining us? One target of the protests is our DEMOCRATIC Governor who is waging a war on public education - and teachers unions - in NY.
The media aside, "the Democrats" are neither saying what needs to be said nor even trying to do what needs to be done. They are far too deep in the pockets of their Corporate Paymasters.

(123 posts)The thing I took from Gandhi's auto-bio was that he was constantly setting up newspapers. It's all well and good to be the change you want to see but it helps to be the media too.
Anyone on this thread have interest or experience in setting up alt-media sources for NC or have NC specific outlets they want to share?
