(45,790 posts)I just had to chip off a bunch of ice from the heating/air conditioning unit fan outside, though.

About 8" of snow.
Went out here about same time. Got about 6". No heat. If ever any doubt whether down comforters work, they DO!

(1,020 posts)2:30 to 7:30. West Durham county. We're on a well so when we lose power we lose water. So grateful to have it back. Hope yours has been restored and if not that you will have it soon.

(1,020 posts)So I worry about them when it's cold. When we had that ice storm last year, we lost power all day. At least then we could get out and have a long lunch. Hope your power is restored soon.

(22,666 posts)Your kitties are lucky to have a caring and attentive Hooman Mom! My heart breaks for any lil furries out in the weather we've had lately. Poor bubbies!
I brushed snow off & poured a little warm water on heat pump compressor blades to get them moving again - back in business - with heat! Thankful - I was worried about being without heat on a 21 degree night! Was NOT looking forward to that!
I'm glad you have your power back. I heard they are opening a shelter at Hillside High School for tonight.

(541 posts)We were out of power only from about 10am to 1230pm today. Our power came back on just as I trudged through our 7 inches of snow to the shed and fired up the generator to standby/exercise mode. Usually works that way ;0). (Fire up the geney and the power comes back on-- works for me!)
Happy to have power back! TW cable an internet still out but I'm sure the heavy snow took a cable tv line down off the pole somewhere near us. M

(541 posts)They are good.
FWIW My next move is to hire an electrician to hook me up a geney plug in into the house and a transfer switch so we can safely back feed a couple of our house's major circuits (fridge, water/well pump) during long outages. Be safe! M

(22,666 posts)Another thing I worried about if the power hadn't come back on fairly soon: food in the freezer. I never did replace my cooler once it fell apart so I'm not even minimally prepared foodwise for a long outage.
