RALEIGH (WTVD) --
Downtown Raleigh businesses are expressing concern for parking changes coming soon. Drivers will no longer have access to one popular garage on the weekends and there will be limited times on the weekdays.
The Blount Street parking garage will soon be off limits to the public on the weekends. It was supposed to be closed off starting this weekend, but the staff tells ABC11 there were problems with some of the new equipment.
"A lot of people depend on this lot," said Raleigh resident Brian Myers.
The fight to find a parking spot in Downtown Raleigh is about to get even more competitive, especially during major events.
another case of a public asset being handed over to private interests? and it just came out of the blue? this just makes me boil, and i can't find any other story on it

(43,049 posts)it looks like the garage is no longer public, but is for the tenants in the new apartment complex. Granted that something had to be done to get them parking, but was this the only solution?
The immediate assumption would be that someone, somehow, got paid off for this, but a more likely explanation is simple ineptitude and fuzzy thinking.

(29,760 posts)if this was going to happen it should have been known long before this, for instance when the housing was built. they could have built the parking into the housing. instead they appropriate the commons for the few. it's infuriating to me. and it should not be legal if in fact it is.
