Federal judge agrees to transfer e-cig lawsuit to N.C. court

A federal judge in California agreed Tuesday to transfer a series of patent-infringement lawsuits involving R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co. to North Carolina.

Reynolds Vapor manufactures Vuse, the top-selling U.S. e-cig product, at its Tobaccoville plant.

Judge George Wu’s ruling also affects lawsuits against Nu Mark LLC, the Altria Group Inc. subsidiary that makes e-cig brand MarkTen.

Fontem Ventures BV and Fontem Holdings BV, owned by Imperial Brands PLC of England, have filed at least three lawsuits against Reynolds Vapor in federal court in the Central Circuit of California. The lawsuits were filed April 4, May 3 and June 22.
