Gov. Pat McCrory calls for special legislative session Wednesday to repeal HB2

Following a surprise move by Charlotte City Council on Monday, Republican Gov. Pat McCrory has called for a special session Wednesday to consider repeal of House Bill 2.

The governor’s statement came in a series of rapidly unfolding events that could signal an end to the nine-month drama that has catapulted North Carolina into national headlines. HB2, seen by critics as an anti-LGBT measure, prompted boycotts and cost the state millions in lost jobs.

Monday’s events also underscored the continuing tensions between Republican lawmakers and Democratic Gov.-elect Roy Cooper.

McCrory’s call came hours after Charlotte City Council voted 10-0, with the support of Cooper and Democratic Mayor Jennifer Roberts, to rescind the LGBT ordinance that prompted HB2.

The dems can easily explain that that the Pubs had months to repeal that law, but the only thing that moved them off the mark was the Dem winning the governorship! They get NO CREDIT FOR THE REPEAL!

ordinances in the state for 6 months with the added option of continuing the moratorium every 6 months indefinitely. That still keeps any anti-discrimination ordinances from having any power to stop discrimination, because the moratorium nulls the ordinances. Democrats did not want that, because that was never part of the original deal that was made. So, the repeal failed.

Cooper was trying to negotiate this behind the scenes and the Republicans outright lied to him and Charlotte then refused to repeal HB2 after they got Charlotte to repeal its anti-discrimination ordinance. They never planned to repeal HB2 at all. They just did this to MAKE Democrats do what they wanted. Well, they got what they wanted and screw everyone else. That is how Republicans in this state are. They take lying, dirty backroom politics, and backstabbing to a new level.
