Bill would allow earlier alcohol sales on Sunday

HIGH POINT — A bill introduced last week by a legislator with Piedmont Triad ties would allow earlier sales of alcoholic beverages in restaurants on Sundays.

Sen. Rick Gunn, R-Alamance, whose district covers parts of Randolph County, filed Senate Bill 155 to allow sales at restaurants starting at 10 a.m. on Sundays instead of noon. The bill wouldn’t change another Sunday alcoholic beverage sale limitation — grocery stores still wouldn’t be able to sell beer or wine before noon on Sundays.

Senate Bill 155 would allow earlier Sunday sales of alcohol only with local approval. A county board of commissioners or city council would have to authorize the change before restaurants could start earlier Sunday alcohol sales in their jurisdiction.

Gunn said his main goal is to promote business growth and opportunity.

“We have a booming travel and tourism industry. It is one of the biggest money-makers for our state,” he said. “This is something that will help them immensely as they are trying to serve the needs of people traveling our state.”

ABC stores out number hospitals four to one in a less than 30 mile radius. Drink alcohol, get cancer. Or at least the possibility of one of nine types.

No doubt I'll revisit this post but I have a birthday party to plan.

Thanks for the post Texas Towelie. ♡

because they thought that the drunks wouldn't be on the road at that time? I know that tradition died with the rising price of gasoline, but this is the final nail in the coffin. There is no safe time anymore and the ride home from church service on Sunday morning just became a little bit more scary. The good news for the churches is that more baptisms will occur as a response.

I remember those days fondly. Now I drive any day of the week I want. I'm feminist like that and daringly suicidal at times. The longer you know who stays in office the more punch drunk I become. It's certainly been hard not to lose my religion, as the saying goes.

Less than 20 percent of Americans regularly attend church—half of what the pollsters report.

Think of all the homeless shelters we could have if churches would open their doors.

Thanks for the post Texas Towelie. ♡
