My mail has been bringing good news and bad news in regards to legislative races

I have received four fairly expensive mailers for State Senator Pate in the last week. All of them having to do with voter ID and his military service. Now first, I am fairly shocked his race is competitive enough for him to be worried. We didn't even have a candidate until June. Second, if I am not the last voter who they should be targeting I have to be close. While I am a 50 year old white male I have voted in no primaries other than Democratic ones. I am gay which any look at my consumer habits would likely show plus I lobbied the Senator on a LGBT rights issue for Equality NC. Oh, and I am a teacher. So bad news they clearly have a crap ton of money. Good news they clearly are giving no thought to how they are spending said money.
