ASHEBORO, N.C. A worker at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro was killed Thursday morning in a workplace accident while performing a rescue drill at the facility, authorities said.
Zoo officials declined to publicly identify the worker who was killed, but said the employee was an arborist hanging in a tree and participating in a mock rescue when the incident occurred.
Zoo officials said law enforcement and state safety regulators are investigating the accident, and grief counselors have been called to the park to work with other zoo employees.
