Kasich will limit school-funding increases to 1% a year

Gov. John Kasich wished he had more to hand out as he presented innovation awards this afternoon to Ohio educators.

"I'd like to give you money, but all I can give you are plaques," Kasich joshed seconds after announcing a bare-bones bottom line for K-12 schools in his upcoming state budget.

Kasich said his state budget recommendations for the next two years - expected to be unveiled on Monday - will include overall annual funding increases of but 1 percent for elementary and secondary education.

"It's a very tough budget," the governor said. "We don't have any more money."

Perhaps if ol' Johnny hadn't given huge tax cuts to the wealthiest in the state, we just MIGHT have enough money to operate, but don't expect any of the great minds in Columbus to come to that conclusion.
