Cuyahoga County Democratic Party retains Shontel Brown as leader
EUCLID, Ohio -- Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Shontel Brown will remain the leader of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, following a vote by hundreds of party committee members Saturday morning.
Brown was elected by a 2-to-1 margin, comfortably fending off a challenge from C. Ellen Connally, a retired Cleveland municipal judge and former County Council president. First elected to an unexpired term in August, Brown now will serve as party chair for the next four years.
Afterwards, Brown told reporters she hopes her victory will allow the party to focus on ongoing organizing efforts for the mid-term elections in November, leaving the contentious leadership fight behind.
"Now that we have stability in our leadership... other people that may not have been supportive in the past, they're definitely going to be willing to come to come into the fold," she said. "This has stabilized us for the next four years, so I am excited, grateful and honored to serve in this position."
