Ohio Hospital Invites Lawmakers to Tour ICU as They Consider COVID Vaccine Mandate Ban Legislation
As Ohio GOP lawmakers retrench this week after facing heat on all sides over proposed COVID vaccine mandate ban legislation, Mount Carmel in Columbus sent a letter to Statehouse reps inviting them to tour the hospital's ICU to witness the devastation of COVID for themselves firsthand.
As data has shown, more than 90% of COVID hospitalizations and deaths are in those who are unvaccinated.
In its letter, Mount Carmel's regional director wrote:
"On behalf of our communities and patients, Mount Carmel Health System sincerely appreciates the support of our elected leaders in Ohio, including you and other members of the General Assembly, have provided to hospitals and providers who are confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our team of physicians, nurses and other staff are exhausted as the pandemic nears its 19th month mark and the current surge continues in our state. At the same time, they show up every day committed to providing safe, high-quality care when our community needs it most. I am honored to work alongside these healthcare heroes. Their dedication is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
As you and other members of the Ohio General Assembly continue to work through our state's pandemic response, I would like to invite you on a private tour of any of Mount Carmel's intensive care units to witness firsthand both the devastation from this disease and the dedication of our team has in caring for COVID-19 patients.
It would be my hope that this firsthand look at the frontlines will help inform your viewpoint on any potential pandemic related legislation, including discussion around the COVID-19 vaccine."
