Headline should read, "J.D. Vance Sugar Coats Authoritarianism."

Recent convert to Catholicism was in Steubenville recently blabbering about his “Common Good” delusions.

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/10/jd-vance-addresses-common-good-conservative-academic-conference-in-interlude-from-campaign-trail.html

Vance’s Senate campaign platform includes some garden-variety Republican stances, like criticizing Democrats for inflation, supporting the fossil-fuel industry, opposing abortion and vocally supporting police.

But some of Vance’s less standard policy proposals – like offering cash payments to families to incentivize them to have children, cutting off government funding for universities that teach “woke” subject matter or imposing taxes on non-profit organizations that promote progressive ideas – point to influence from common-good and post-liberal conservatism and other elements of The New Right, Patterson said.

(snip)

As do some of Vance’s less specific ideas – like conceptually backing a national ban on abortion or floating giving minors voting rights that are controlled by their parents, thus giving more political power to large families.

Vance also has said that rather than what he described as an ideologically hostile federal bureaucracy, conservatives should “seize” it by firing tens of thousands of federal workers, despite legal civil service protections, and replacing them with allies. He alluded to this aim in response to a question from the audience on Saturday night.

Figures in the movement regularly praise Hungarian Prime Minster Viktor Orban, who has consolidated power in his country and advanced policies meant to promote childbirth within traditional, same-sex families while limiting immigration, reducing press freedoms, banning same-sex couples from adopting children and restricting art and movies deemed to positively depict homosexuality or transgenderism. Some also have praised state-run capitalism like the kind practiced in China, Patterson said.

***** So …

Vance wants more Americans to reproduce. He wants to reduce freedom of the press. Restrict same sex marriage and adoption. Severely limit immigration. He and his movement praise authoritarian Victor Orban. And the kicker …. He thinks people who don’t have children shouldn’t have an equal vote to people with large families. Wtf???

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/07/26/jd-vances-plan-let-parents-vote-their-kids-might-not-work-way-he-thinks/

And all these Catholics sitting there welcoming this frightening bullshit with open arms and nodding heads….. I’m ready to hurl.

This dangerous faux relevant authoritarian should NEVER be NEAR elected office. Please, Ohioans, wake up, think, and VOTE BLUE for your rights!
