Broadview Heights voters will see Issue 9, a tax renewal for police, on the Nov. 5 ballot

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio -- On Nov. 5, Broadview Heights residents will vote on Issue 9 -- the renewal of a five-year, 0.7-mill tax levy that helps pay for police salaries.

City Finance Director David Pfaff said the tax now costs residential and commercial property owners about $19.60 a year and about $21.35 a year, respectively, for each $100,000 in property valuation.

“The effective millage should drop next year if approved, since property values in (Cuyahoga) County went up and this is a renewal levy,” Pfaff told cleveland.com in an email last week.

Under Ohio House Bill 920, a renewal levy cannot increase property taxes if property values rise.
