Mingo Junction mayor explains levies residents will see on ballot

MINGO JUNCTION, Ohio — Residents of Mingo Junction will decide the future of two levies when they head to the polls.

Last May, residents were paying taxes on an expired levy that failed to renew in 2021 and the tax expired at the beginning of 2022. But the village continued to collect money from the levy.

"It was not shenanigans or wrongdoings,” Mayor Judy Ruckman said. “It was just someone did not get it back on the ballot. The money that was collected was put in the appropriate funds that it was supposed to be in and was being utilized appropriately.”

Since the error, Ruckman said they are in the process of reimbursing taxpayers - a year and a half worth.

I interviewed two elected Republicans Tony Morelli (commissioner) and Andrew Plesich (clerk of courts) in Jefferson county Ohio, who admitted to going into the board of elections office after hours when it was locked and closed.
