Crosby-Ironton referendum on the ballot Nov. 5
CROSBY As the Crosby-Ironton School District faces an estimated $1 million deficit for the 2025-26 school year, residents will be asked to cast their votes on an operating referendum on Nov. 5.
If passed, the measure would allow the district to levy more property tax money each year, generating an extra $1.5 million a year for the next 10 years.
We have a great thing happening here in our school district, and we want to continue those great things with the successful passage of an operating levy referendum, Crosby-Ironton Superintendent Jamie Skjeveland said during an interview Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Right now, the district receives $7,281 per adjusted pupil unit from the state in the general education formula, according to information from Elhers Public Finance Advisors. Adjusted pupil units are calculated based on student attendance and weighted based on grade level. Students in seventh through 12th grades are weighted as 1.2, while younger students are weighted as 1. The referendum would allow the district to levy an extra $1,500 per pupil unit. The districts enrollment is 950 students.
