Former Oklahoma City businesswoman ordered to pay more than $22M for tax evasion

OKLAHOMA CITY - The former owner of an Oklahoma City-based payroll company was ordered Tuesday to pay more than $22.7 million in restitution to the IRS for failing to pay employment taxes.

Janis Ann Edwards, 67, also was sentenced to three years in federal prison. She pleaded guilty in January in Oklahoma City federal court to tax evasion.

"This case baffles me," U.S. District Judge David L. Russell said before announcing the punishment.

"There has to be a significant consequence for what you did," the judge said. "Everybody in this room has to pay more taxes because of what you did."

but somehow I suspect she's possibly a registered Democrat, and if she's been voting, has been voting a solid Republican ticket all along.
