More than $63M spent on restoration of Oklahoma Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma has spent more than $63 million on a restoration project of its Capitol building that’s expected to be completed in five years.

The project includes the restoration of the Oklahoma Capitol’s interior and exterior features, along with infrastructure, The Oklahoman reported. Work on the century-old building is funded by bond issues.

“Since the last time we met, we’ve actually crossed over the threshold from the first issue of the first bond package,” Project Manager Trait Thompson told the State Capitol Repair Expenditure Oversight Committee.

Thompson said the project is now “into the second issue of the second bond package of the original $120 million that was authorized in 2014.” He said he’s pleased with the project’s financial situation.

I always thought it was cool OK was only state without one.

Jim Lehr of PBS McNeil-Lehr Report was from OK. He wrote a series of mysteries based in OK. One was about shenanigans to 'crown Ok' (I think that was the rallying cry in the book.

It was pretty funny. Then a few yrs later the GOP governor (same man* who was gov at time of OKC bombing) actually waged a successfull campaign to do just that! I think some of our 'better citizens' thought being the only state without a dome made us 'low class' and looked down on.

* He was on list to be considered for W's AG, but then W heard the gov had said somethimg negative about him. Later the gov's wife ran in the GOP primary for House Rep from Tulsa. She lost to Steve Largent, a former pro football player (Seahawks?).
