OU carries out second round of staff layoffs this year
The University of Oklahoma has carried out staff layoffs, its second round this year.
While no official number has been provided yet, a university spokesperson confirmed layoffs were happening. An official statement from the university was expected but not provided as of press time Thursday.
In February, 28 positions between the OU Norman and Health Sciences Center campuses were eliminated. That followed another 50 layoffs in November, most of which were from the landscaping department. It is not known what area or areas of the university have been impacted by the latest round of layoffs.
The previous layoffs occurred under now retired OU president James Gallogly, who sought to improve the universitys financial situation during his one-year tenure. On June 4, during the Norman Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Lunch, OU interim president Joseph Harroz said the university still had work to do "on the financial side."
