Former Logan County deputy sentenced for $5,000 theft

A former Logan County deputy sheriff was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation for stealing thousands in federal grant money.

Doyle Allen Baker, 31, also was ordered to pay back the $5,000 he stole from the Logan County sheriff’s office, which received the grant funds for alcohol enforcement. Baker, formerly of Edmond, pleaded guilty to federal program theft March 7 in Oklahoma City federal court.

“All of this has definitely been a kick in the shorts, and it’s definitely taught me a lesson,” Baker said during the hearing. “It’s a lot of years and a lot of work that I just threw away.”

The National Highway Safety Administration provided $20,000 to the Logan County sheriff’s office to cover overtime for employees working in alcohol enforcement. Baker submitted time sheets that falsely showed he worked overtime, and he wrote 54 fake citations and warnings to hide that he hadn’t completed the extra shifts.
