Oklahoma man says church members held him down, tried to pray away his homosexuality

An Oklahoma man says members of a church his family attends held him down and tried to pray away his homosexuality.

The incident happened this month at First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell, about 100 miles north of Oklahoma City, according to TV station KFOR.

At the end of church services, Sean Cormie and his partner Gary Gardner claim about a dozen congregants surrounded them and began praying loudly. At the same time, a pastor allegedly made anti-gay statements. Cormie says someone even punched him in the face.

“They hold me down, pin me down, and I’m crying, and the Holy Spirit just comes through me, and they keep speaking in tongues, praying over me,” Cormie said. “I was just crying ‘mercy, mercy.’”

Is this some sort of "dark" humor in the face of a brutal assault against a gay man?

History teaches us that the most vehement haters of the "gay"
a really, gay butt hate the thought of being exposed..... like
their wife's are haven't figure it out.....

History teaches us MOST anti-gay assholes are STRAIGHT. There are a few who are self-loathing, but most are simply heterosexuals who hate the "other". However, this story was not about a "closet case" this was an assault on an OPENLY gay man, so I really didn't "get" your "humor" and with this additional comment, I don't think you really understood the story or the homophobic implications.

First of all, we all see things from very different perspectives.

According to your response, my posting was not understood or appreciated.

My response was a cold bit of generalized social reality that the end intended
result of the attempted "beating the gay out of him", because the ignorant,
can't see gays as equals, is a fool's errand.

Sorry, if my response wasn't to your liking. If it had been, you would have written
it to reflect your views.

I'm not blaming him, just wondering. Hope he has learned to stay away from churches.

the guy could “pretend” to really like the man handling thereby making the aggressors participants in an act that is an abomination to their god.
