My brother was messing with a gun and it went off," the 911 caller said. The man, who was not named by police, had been "cleaning/clearing" the semi-automatic handgun inside a mobile home in Midwest City -- just outside of Oklahoma City -- on Sunday afternoon, witnesses said, according to the Midwest City Police Department.
The gun accidentally discharged, and the man's friend, 21-year-old Joshua Allen, who was playing video games at the time, was fatally struck once in the chest, witnesses said, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing but "all evidence indicates the shooting was not intentional," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said in a statement Monday.
The case will be presented to the district attorney's office to review for possible charges, said police. Chief Clabes called the shooting "an unfortunate, tragic event while mishandling a loaded firearm."

(2,764 posts)There needs to be some sort of CE per year to have a gun. It should also be paid for by the owner and signed off on.
I have to do it to keep a couple licenses up per year, why not guns?
Entirely to many idiots can carry without any training.

(11,073 posts)Why wouldnt you take the bullets out of the gun if you are going to clean it. There should be some type of charge filed against the gun owner.

(2,559 posts)It takes a special kind of stupid... Not to make sure the gun is unloaded before attempting to clean it...

(403 posts)... and you have a more accurate description of the event.
Change the wording ... then charge the gun owner with manslaughter.
I'm a huge gun guy (went shooting with a friend this weekend) but this is worthy of punishment.
The privilege of owning a gun comes with the responsibility of being safe with it.

(2,764 posts)Whenever someone asks for the most sensible, smallest fucking thing regarding guns they are ridiculed.
I posted in another thread about a friend that moved to Europe and asked me to move as well. I am really close if I can get my wife onboard.
Anything sensible is a hair on fire response. I am at the point where the U.S. can shoot everyone up. Fuck off, you deserve it!
On edit: And before anyone starts, that is not the only reason I want to move. I can and I want to.
