3.0 magnitude earthquake about 4 miles SW of Chandler.
SGS reports SECOND early morning earthquake at 1:56 a.m. was a 4.3 magnitude just outside OKC near Luther.
USGS now listing a THIRD earthquake, a mag 2.8, near Boley, OK.

(16,993 posts)I read a report that ties fracking in Oklahoma to some of these bigger earthquakes. I know Oklahoma has earthquakes, but when the oil companies denied any connection, that pretty much confirmed for me that there's something to it. It doesn't take much imagination to see how all that water and chemicals injected under high pressure has to have some detrimental effects besides polluting the water, soil, etc.

(40,416 posts)But don't worry too much. These are small quakes. I lived in SoCal for a decade. We'd experience small ones all the time. Only two were scary. One, 7.2, went on for half a minute of gentle rocking. Another, a smaller one scared the crap out of me because it was very sharp, sudden shaking.
The others were common occurrences.
Regardless, stay safe.

(41,832 posts)here in Tulsa. We had an outbreak last year too. That one really rattled the house and the dishes.
It's just kind of a weird event in Oklahoma. :0

OKLAHOMA CITY - Several earthquakes have rattled central Oklahoma in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The first quake was reported around 1:45 a.m. an estimated 3 miles west of Chandler. The United State Geological Survey say this was a 3.0 quake.
Fifteen minutes later a strong 4.3 earthquake shook the Oklahoma City metro area. This earthquake woke many residents up and shook buildings from Oklahoma City to Stillwater.
No damage or injuries were immediately reported. The USGS says this quake was located 29 miles east and northeast of Oklahoma City near Luther.
At 2:15 a.m. a third quake was reported by the USGS. This one a 2.8 magnitude near Boley, Oklahoma.
One minute later a fourth early morning quake shook the area of Luther and Choctaw. The USGS says this one was a 3.3 quake.

those ones are believed to have been due to the underground disposal of drilling waste water.
