Gov. Mary Fallin signs minimum wage hike ban in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY — Cities in Oklahoma are prohibited from establishing mandatory minimum wage or vacation and sick-day requirements under a bill that has been signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin.

Fallin signed the bill Monday that supporters say would prevent a hodgepodge of minimum wages in different parts of the state that could potentially harm the business community.

Opponents say those decisions should be left up to individual communities. They complain the bill specifically targets Oklahoma City, where an initiative is underway to a establish a citywide minimum wage higher than the current federal minimum wage.

Fallin signed three other bills Monday dealing with tax credits for banking institutions, public investments, and membership of the Alarm and Locksmith Industry Committee.

passed to prevent 'harm' to business, it causes 'harm' to everybody. The shortsightedness boggles the mind. Then again. maybe its me

Mattress Mary Fallin is an idiot along with the dimwits in the state legislature. I see no real hope of any change even though some Republicans I know think she is embarassing. Truth is she is easier for business to manipulate because she is so dense. I see another 4 years of this. I will walk and knock on doors as I always do, but fighting the Fox news crowd here is almost futile.

Really? I guess the Dems don't exist in that state anymore as an organized party?

She will have a Democratic opponent, no challenge for her party nomination though.

and left in the 70's....Even though my parents were Republicans, I think that the state has regressed since my era. For example, creationism wasn't universally accepted the way that it is now - let alone global warming denial. But then again, the entire country has regressed following Reaganism , Bush I and Clinton.

My husband is a professor, it terrifies him that they are pushing creationism the way they are. Plus Mary Fallin and her ilk are pushing the big business agenda to the hilt. We try, but it does feel like we are butting up against every church in the state.
