Oklahoma
Related: About this forumHello there Okies and anyone with ties to Oklahoma
I am the host for this group and I'd really like to take care if it.... the DU2 forum was about dead.
No one ever posted.
This group can be what we make it. We can talk about anything Oklahoma related.
I think even gardening in Oklahoma, weather, vacation spots, sports, good restaurants or bars, and of course politics.
I'd love for everyone to feel free to make this forum a fun one.
Perle (Skirvin) Mesta was the famous "hostess with the mostest" from Oklahoma. She once said that Oklahomans threw the best parties because the state was dry and so private parties were always lively. So I'm twisting that around a little.
Our group will be really a good one because our politics suck, so we need lively and fun diversions.

(2,453 posts)Live in the state, appeared in the musical an NW Classen High School in 1982. I agree, our politicians suck. Let's talk about food.
There sure seems to be a lot of good Mexican places popping up in Tulsa.

Lots of things to love here... and hate.
Behind the Aegis
(54,865 posts)I have lived in Stillwater and OKC. My partner of almost 10 years is from OKC, always lived there...until he met me! I have lived all over the country. This last move was my 20th (I think). I have lived in 12 states in my 42 years. There are some things I love (my partner being one), but there are some things I absolutely hate: the weather and the damn toll roads! I love the OKC and Tulsa zoos, I am a member of Tulsa's. It was interesting to see Fall this year...Southern States don't have much of a Fall usually. It's hot, then it's cold. New Orleans seemed like that most of the time. I miss NOLA, but things are sooooo much cheaper here and that is quite helpful.
I will say, since we have moved back I have been surprised by more liberals "coming out." Some of the articles I have read in the Tulsa World are actual "real" real liberal, not "Okie" liberal. That's been a nice change. Even some of the news programs are more open than I remember, not NOLA open, but for Oklahoma, it really is a big improvement and very nice to see.

(12,263 posts)If I could figure out how to post just the video, I would, but I tried and can't get it to work so I'll post a link that will take you directly to two videos, one a slide show of a trail ride through Osage County, and one is a cell phone video of the band of wild horses that cut right through it. Oklahoma has a wonderful program to protect wild horses and holds adoption events every month. Saddle up!

(41,832 posts)Things are pretty quiet. Everyone bustling to get ready for Christmas.
I just read that the Oklahoma unemployment rate is 6.1% so on that front, we are doing better than some.

I know they seem to like it in Tulsa. He seems to prefer that over Lawton, where he was stationed in the late 90's.
