Oklahoma City Council awards 50M streetcar project contract

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma City Council is awarding a $50 million contract to build a streetcar line.

The Oklahoman reports that the City Council voted Tuesday for the project to go to Herzog Contracting Corp. of St. Joseph, Missouri, in partnership with Stacy and Witbeck of Alameda, California.

The streetcar line's construction is expected to take about two years, and will involve the installation of electrical substations and overhead wires, and 4.9 miles of track bed in city streets. Nearly two dozen boarding platforms will have to be built as well.

Plans call for mainline service to link Midtown and Bricktown through the central business district. It will run Monday through Saturday.
