Oregon
Related: About this forumAnyone having better luck with Coveroregon than me?
I printed and mailed the application from the website, which was easy enough, but then I never heard anything back, never received a packet. I know there was bunch of hiring to help with the processing, but after 8 weeks of waiting I printed and mailed the application again.
I guess we're past the deadline for coverage to start on January 1, but I don't mind waiting a little longer, having had no insurance for myself or the kids for 10 years. Anyone else have better luck so far?

(11,406 posts)Although I did receive an automated call from them yesterday, informing me they received my application and they would try and contact me within the next 3 days to let me know if they will be able to get me coverage by Jan 1st. If I don't hear from them, I will not have my application processed until a later date.
It sounds like the best course of action is to sign up directly through the private insurance company. At least, if you're not applying for federal subsidy. The price is the same if you sign up with the company itself, the only difference I've noticed is that you can't apply for the federal subsidy except through the exchange.

(10,761 posts)so I'll keep trying to be patient. I suppose I could go directly to one of the "community partners" or the DHS office here, but probably I'll wait another three weeks or so and see if the enrollment packet comes (which is what you're supposed to get after you send in the application).

(11,406 posts)FWIW, a friend of mine put a call in to one of the community partner agents over a week ago and hasn't heard back.

(18,791 posts)Even though I've been out of Oregon for 30 years, we still follow goings on in the state.
I've been reading the articles in the Oregonian and can't believe what a mess this became...and the money! Essentially an opened ended contract with Oracle??? O...M...G!

(18,791 posts)I missed the article a couple of days ago...not that I'm an expert but good bye and good riddance to her.

(4,810 posts)as of Jan 1st. That I will receive an enrollment package in the next couple of days!!! Cutting it a bit fine but we'll see.
Anyone else get anything?

(10,761 posts)Hopefully it won't be such a wait for the enrollment packet, but "the wheels are in motion", it seems.

(10,761 posts)Which is good, I suppose. I was actually looking forward to getting a packet showing my options for private subsidized insurance, but instead we got OHP cards, so we're covered that way. My one reason for not wanting OHP was prior bad experiences and that they limited eligibility if you had assets (we own a house and a derelict commercial property). But I assume they've changed the rules, as there were no questions or anything about that in the application, and we weren't given an option...so far so good, then.
Next step: find a doctor to give physicals and vaccinations and so forth.

(4,810 posts)to me. I tried calling my worker # to find out why, but no answer from there. Do you know the income requirement for OHP? I'm pretty sure we earn too much.

(10,761 posts)...or in the calculator, that was about the income point where it went from "congrats you qualify for OHP!" to "here are your subsidized insurance options".
I'm a little ways over $27k, but I know I can reduce my income by funding a 401k if I have to. I suppose I will have to call and find out, as there wasn't really any information given.

(4,810 posts)I estimated our 2014 income at 40k (2 persons) and was not expecting this at all. I've been trying to call all weekend but get nowhere

(10,761 posts)I didn't get an information packet but I did get insurance cards, and there was enough there to find the policy information online. My first concern was that it would work at the clinic that's closest to us, and that turns out to be the main provider listed. I called them and they said no problem - come in and fill out a "new patient" form, and we could schedule checkups and so forth.
Second was vision care, which is one thing that's been hard to keep up on with two kids and no insurance. Paying for exams and glasses two years ago was a stretch, but now they need new ones. It turns out the insurance covers one exam and one pair of glasses a year, and the optometrist that the kids like is a listed provider.
Now the best part - two guys I work with have been big skeptics; both are entirely eligible for coverage, but they get their information from fox news and neither bothered to do the paperwork. We all had to go down for flu shots today (work required), at the counter they answered "no insurance" and paid their $40 each. I showed my insurance card, they made a quick phone call, and my shot was covered 100%. Of course, the boss reimbursed them the money, but they were all surprised that the insurance actually worked the way it was supposed to, easily.
