Ex-ambulance service treasurer indicted on embezzlement counts

A former ambulance service treasurer in Fayette County stole $136,000 from the not-for-profit company, a federal grand jury said.

Edward T. Stevenson, 62, was indicted last week under seal on 21 counts of mail fraud and theft of funds from a program receiving federal money. The case was unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court and Mr. Stevenson made a brief appearance before a federal magistrate judge.

The grand jury said Mr. Stevenson, of Newel, Pa., was the treasurer of Brownsville Ambulance Service from 2013 to March 2017.

He issued 132 checks totaling $136,140 from the company’s checking accounts at First National Bank made payable to himself, to cash or to his personal business, Lunden’s Flower Shop, according to the FBI and postal inspectors.
