Here's how Field of Screams prepares for today's opening, 100 dead bodies, 300 gallons of blood
Summer is over (practically, if not technically) which means that, for the holiday-minded among us, its already time to start thinking ahead for Halloween.
And Jim Schopf, owner of Field of Screams, is way ahead of us on that score. And thats why Field of Screams is ready to open for the 2019 season today, on Friday the 13th, with a full harvest moon overhead.
The venue has four spooky attractions: the Haunted Hayride through a cornfield of hidden dangers; the Den of Darkness and its murderous denizens; the deranged doctors and inmates of the Frightmare Asylum; and the Nocturnal Wasteland and its mutated residents.
In short, there are four different paths to take to get the pants scared off of you, each with a complex collection of displays, special effects and performers.
Schopf shared with us the details of preparing Field of Screams frightening attractions for the Halloween season, and what exactly it takes (in addition to a scare-inclined imagination) to put together such an experience.
Heres what he said goes into preparing for this years Field of Screams season:
Personnel
350 actors
50 hours of actor training
300 masks
1,200 costumes
60 hours of makeup training
25,000 total hours of labor
