(35,687 posts)I'd really like to know who these outsiders are and why they're coming here. In the last 2 days there have been graffiti spray painted on a few public buildings and sculptures, gravesites, etc. Today it was announced that we have a curfew, everybody please stay home, but the outside agitators were already here.
Some police have been injured (at least 4 taken to hospitals) and I'm sure there will be updates in the 11 o'clock news. Of course everyone is upset by George Floyd's death (murder) but this was a peaceful protest here in Pittsburgh. Suddenly outside agitators came in and tried to start a violent confrontation. This tweet from our Mayor Bill Peduto:

(35,687 posts)Same thing happened in Harrisburg yesterday. I'm sure the troublemakers in Minneapolis are coming in from somewhere else too. It didn't take much to get things going in Minneapolis, and now they're spreading it out to other cities. Something is happening in Chicago too but I haven't seen the news this morning so I don't know how bad it got last night. The mayors of big cities are saying that outsiders are causing the violence & looting.
In Pittsburgh we've had lots of peaceful protests over the years, and many have been anti-Trump for one reason or another. But the police have never gotten violent with anyone, and nobody ever started trouble. Now with this one, somebody is setting police cars on fire and others are vandalizing public buildings and statues. It's troublemakers and I hope they get caught. I live in a city neighborhood that's 50% black and 50% white, everyone here is peaceful and neighborly. I walk my dog and cut my grass, and the neighbors wave and say hello.

(22,968 posts)for a few years (1974-1977). This is so heartbreaking. I remember going downtown after the Steelers won the AFC championship game in Jan 1976. I saw looters breaking windows and running out of a furrier with arms full of coats. No police in sight. Who loots during a celebration? Or any other time?
We lived in the suburbs of L.A. during the riots after the Rodney King injustice. Somehow, this seems worse.
